Art Week 2012 in NYC

Independent 2012 (3/8-11)

Magali Reus at The Approach

The amazing (and fascinating) thing about minimal art is that it can change the atmosphere and the feel of the space completely with just a simple layout of each piece in a certain space - depending on where it is placed, how much space is left between each piece, which angle the piece is facing, which pieces are placed next to each other, how the number and the kind of artworks to display in the same room are minimized, etc. When these elements are carefully and perfectly considered, some intense strength is born in the relation among artworks (as if they were connected to each other with invisible strings), and the space is filled with a tremendous power. In minimal art, both the space and objects are equal parts of the artists' work. The empty space can contain an intense power as an art object, just like silence in music can have an overwhelming power as a sound itself.
